Parent Letter & Info.
Welcome or welcome back. The BFA Cross Country
Coaching Staff is looking forward to another fun and exciting season. Our
philosophy is to give our runners the best every day, and we expect them to
give us their best every day. This is a sport with no tryouts or cuts, and we
do not have a bench so everyone participates in every race. With that said we
do have a few runners who join because of the social aspect of the sport…..they
spend most of their practices walking around, hiding out, or playing tag, or
some even going to hang out at someone’s house. These people will be asked to
leave the team. We are a team/family that expects the same amount of
determination and work ethic of each individual. Our goal is for every runner
to improve all season long and be in much better shape than they started the
season. This cannot be accomplished if they are doing any of the previously
mentioned activities.
Our Manhattan College Invitational
will be the weekend of October 13th & 14th. As always
we are looking for a chaperone for each room. I need to know by September 17thif you can go, sooner would be better. This is because the hotel requires a
rooming list well in advance. If your runner will be unable to attend I need to
know this ASAP. This trip is an amazing opportunity for our runners.All chaperones must be finger printed and have a background check done. This process takes about a month....so if you are able to chaperone please start that process ASAP!!!
Some important dates: August 25th……..Annual
Picnic at Georgia Beach, 6PM. September 30th ………. Is when our Invitational is this year. This is an open date in the XC schedule this year.....so I expect twice as many teams to attend. That means we will have to
be more organized with many volunteers. Volunteers to park buses and cars, sell
t-shirts/food, monitor the course and crowds, etc. This should be a very good
fund raiser for us which will help to pay for our NYC trip.
Our first practice on Thursday, August 17th will
be a 5k Time Trial at Hard'ack. Runners should
arrive by 7:30pm to get warmed up. Race will start at 8:00. We raced by Tiki Torches last year and plan on the same thing this year. We will have more torches this year.....LOL!!!!!
